Tanuj Batavi and Nirupama adjuged best athletes

Bangalore: Tanuj Batavia of Vidya Niketan and Nirupama of Baldwin High School won the best boy and girl athlete awards respectively in the KPMG inter-school meet that concluded at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Saturday.

Dhananjay sizzles

Dhananjay Murari’s unbeaten 101 (208b, 4x4, 3x6) helped Combined Moffusil XI score 206 against Bangalore City XI in a S.A. Srinivasan Trophy tournament cricket match that commenced here on Saturday.

For Bangalore City XI, Arjun Shetty claimed five wickets inclusive of a hat-trick.

Karnataka retained the overall title in the National junior aquatic championship which concluded at Amritsar on September 4, according to media release from State and National chief coach, S. Pradeep Kumar.

Karnataka won the team titles in all the four sections (Boys Group I and II) and Girls group I and II) and it topped the tally way ahead of its nearest rival Maharashtra with 570 points.

Karnataka also shared the individual honours with Maharashtra, Akash Rohit and Arhata Magavi of Karnataka won the Group II individual titles in the boys and girls Group II sections respectively, while Maharashtra’s Virdhwal Khade and Arati Gokhlae reigned supreme in the Boys Group I and Gisls Group I respectively.

Olympian Khade won all his five individual events 50, 100 and 200m freestyle, 50 and 100 m butterfly events, with new records.

MEG beats Postal

MEG defeated Postal 28-26, 21-25, 25-16, 25-15 in a State ‘A’ division volleyball men’s league match here on Saturday evening.

Belgaum won the inaugural KBA inter-district badminton championship in Bangalore on Saturday. In the final at the KBA courts, Belgaum defeated Tumkur 3-0, while in the third-place play-off Hassan scored a 3-0 victory over Raichur.
