Painting contest for children on Egypt

MADURAI: National Bal Bhavan has invited entries for the international painting competition organised by the Ministry of Culture, Egypt.

According to the Embassy of Arab Republic of Egypt, New Delhi, the invitation to participate in the competition had come with an objective to provide an opportunity for the children from all over the world to express their views about Egypt through their paintings, said R. Jagadheesan, Assistant Director, Regional Centre for Art and Culture.

Only two best paintings from the region comprising Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram will be entitled to participate in the competition, he said and added that each Jawahar Bal Bhavan had been directed to select two best paintings from their respective districts and send it to the Regional Centre, which would select the best two from the 10 paintings to represent the region.

The competition is open to children between the ages 5 and 16 years. Every artwork, not less than 30x40 cm in size, should carry the following information typed in English and in Arabic in block letters on the back of the painting: Full name, sex, date of birth, nationality, full address, title of the entry.

The participant can follow any technique except black pencil. Even computer graphics are allowed. No entry will be returned. Entries close on October 1, 2008. Gold and silver medals as well as certificates of merit will be distributed as prizes for the winning paintings.
