MADURAI: The beginning of third year of operation of Makkal TV, a Tamil satellite television channel promoted by Makkal Tholai Thodarpu Kuzhumam, founded by the Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S. Ramadoss, will be held here on Saturday. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the channels’s Chief Executive Officer A. Sivakumar said that the celebration would have three sessions: ‘Isaithamizhum Nadagathamizhum’ (cultural events), ‘Iyatramizh’ (literature), and ‘Makkal Thamizh’ (felicitations to Makkal TV). The first session would feature performances such as ‘nagaswaram,’ folk songs and ‘kaavadi Attam,’ by renowned artistes. In the second session, various dialects of Tamil would be discussed. In the final segment, prominent personalities and editors from different media organisations would analyse the various features of the channel, he said. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss would preside over the occasion while PMK president Dr. Ramadoss would deliver a special address. The proceedings would be telecast live on Makkal TV from 4 p.m. Venu Sanjeevi, Managing Director, said that as Madurai occupied an important place in the growth of Tamil language, it was decided to have the celebration here.
