MADURAI: The Madras High Court Bench here on Thursday reversed the acquittal of 17 persons from a triple murder case. The incident had taken place inside a court premises at Vilathikulam in Tuticorin district on January 22, 1991. Allowing a State appeal, a Division Bench comprising Justice D. Murugesan and Justice M. Sathyanarayanan convicted all the seventeen on charges of murder and directed them to appear before the court on September 12 for pronouncement of sentences. The Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate in Tuticorin had acquitted all 23 accused in the case on April 16, 1998. The State had appealed against 19 accused of whom the acquittal of two was confirmed by the High Court.
