NEW DELHI: The Union Rural Development Ministry has announced a Rs. 1,600-crore assistance package for the flood affected people of Bihar. All employees of the Ministry have also decided to contribute a day’s salary to the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund. About Rs. 25 crore of the total additional amount to be to sanctioned for allocation-based programmes will be released to provide drinking water in the flood affected areas under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP), Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said here on Friday. Diseases prevention With flood waters beginning to recede, the Health Ministry has taken steps to prevent the spread of vector-borne and water-borne diseases. A high-level team, led by the Special Director-General (Public Health), Shiv Lal, was already camping in Patna. Six public health and 10 medical teams were on standby.
