NEW DELHI: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi on Friday rejected the Opposition charge that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh “misled” Parliament on the India-U.S. nuclear cooperation. He said the government was not shying away from facing Parliament on any issue. “We have decided to convene the House during October and the process to hold the session has been set in motion,” Mr. Ravi told The Hindu. He said the government wanted to hold the monsoon session on August 11 but then it decided to have the trust vote in July, which led to a change in schedule. He said between now and October 17, when Parliament is scheduled to meet, there is a series of engagements first with Prime Minister travelling overseas, followed by Durga Pooja-Dusshera festival and later the Speaker has to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva. Mr. Ravi said there was no room for any controversy over the “secret” letter by the Bush administration to House Foreign Affairs Committee since the Prime Minister told Parliament that India retained the right to conduct nuclear tests. “Where has he misled?” he sought to know.
