Decomposed body of youth found at home

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A highly decomposed body of a youth was found in a house in Thoraipakkam on Thursday. The youth’s sister, aged about 40 years, was allegedly sitting next to the body for nearly a week praying for the recovery of her brother.

Police said local people complained to the patrol police on Wednesday night about the foul smell emanating from a house in the First Cross Street. Early next day, a special team visited the house that was found locked. Police forced open the rear door and found a decomposed body and the woman sitting next to it.

After efforts to bring the woman out of the house failed, women police were summoned to assist the investigators. The body of the youth, in his early twenties, had no external injuries and the police believe that it was a natural death. The woman, who was in a state of depression, was referred to a home for safe custody.

Enquiries revealed that the family was living without electricity in the house for the last six months as they could not pay the bills.
