I am happy to know that the University of Madras is celebrating the valedictory of its 150th Anniversary on 5th September 2008 and a special convocation is being held on this occasion.

The University of Madras has carved a niche for itself in the field of higher education in the country with its impressive credentials. With the dedication and sincerity of its faculty, students and the staff, the University has established standards of excellence and contributed immensely towards educational development. Its alumni are engaged in various capacities in the service of the country. I am confident that in the years ahead, the University would strive towards a glorious future.

I extend my greetings and good wishes to the alumni, students, faculty and the staff on this memorable occasion and wish the convocation every success.
