KOCHI: Ernakulam, virtually the headquarters of badminton in Kerala, celebrated a double in the State senior inter-district championship at the FACT Udyogamandal Club, Eloor, on Thursday. The host district, now home to the top four men’s seeds including defending champion K.A. Aneesh and National doubles champion Sanave Thomas, crushed Kozhikode 3-0 to win the men’s team title for the sixth straight year. The host women, led by the promising Daya Elsa Jacob, defeated Thrissur 2-0. Aneesh, now 33, did not even take a minute’s break after his singles tie against Kozhikode’s young Neeraj Rehman and stayed on court for the last doubles which showed the strength of his team. The results (inter-district team championship): Men: Final: Ernakulam bt Kozhikode 3-0 (Antony K. Jacob bt Midhilesh Sunder 21-15, 21-13; K.A. Aneesh bt Neeraj Rehman 21-14, 21-17; Sanave Thomas & Aneesh bt Ram C. Vijay & Mithilesh 21-12, 21-17); Semifinals: Kozhikode bt Thrissur 3-1; Ernakulam bt Thiruvananthapuram 3-1. Women: Final: Ernakulam bt Thrissur 2-0 (Daya Elsa Jacob bt Sneha Santhilal 21-12, 21-15; Elsa Jacob & P.S.
