Corrections and clarifications

* * The last paragraph of a report “Paswan calls for ban on RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal” (September 3, 2008) was “He accused the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of going soft on the BJP”, leading to a query on how the last paragraph was related to the rest of the report — on the violence in Orissa. The unedited paragraph was “He [Lok Jan Shakti Party leader and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan] accused the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati of showing signs of going soft on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which, Mr. Paswan claimed, could be deduced from her disinclination to order a Central Bureau of Investigation into the death of two Bajrang Dal activists who were allegedly making bombs in Kanpur.”

* * The heading of a report was “4 separatist leaders released” (September 2, 2008, page 1). It should have been “3 separatist leaders released”, as mentioned in the text.

* * The heading of a report was “India third biggest Co2 emitter in world, says data” (September 1, 2008). The text mentioned Co2 as well. An associate professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, said it was disappointing to see Co2 to represent carbon dioxide that way. The correct way is CO{-2}. If it is not technically possible, it should be in full capital letters. “Co” in chemistry stands for Cobalt.

* * The 23rd paragraph in a report “Ronaldinho and Robinho are the top summer transfers” (“Sport”, September 3, 2008) was “Liverpool however splashed out 24 million euros to buy Tottenham striker Roy Keane to create a new strike partnership at Anfield with Fernando Torres.” It should have been Robbie Keane. (Roy Keane, an ex-Manchester United captain, is now the manager of Sunderland club.)
