The news report “Strategic ties with U.S. will take India Pakistan’s way: Karat” (The Hindu, September 3, 2008) quotes Prakash Karat, general secretary of the CPI(M), as saying: “It might also come up with the claim that since the Speaker had not prorogued the brief trust vote session on July 22, the session beginning in October will be a continuation of the last session.” We wish to make it clear that the prorogation of the Parliament session is in the sole jurisdiction of the Honourable President and the Speaker has no role whatsoever in this regard. Prasanna Kumar S., OSD to Speaker, Lok Sabha, New Delhi
