The government will function with impartiality Officials directed to deal sternly with wrongdoers CHENNAI: The Arasu Cable TV Corporation will start functioning in all places in the State, including Chennai, Madurai and Tirunelveli, on September 15, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Thursday. Referring to a war of words between Sun TV Network and Royal Cable Vision (RCV), Mr. Karunanidhi said the Arasu Cable TV Corporation was providing its services in Thanjavur and Coimbatore and people in the districts, who got the cable TV connections through the government agency, were required to pay nominal charges. The corporation had been started with the intention of serving people at concessional rates. Referring to a statement issued by Sun TV on Wednesday, he said it revealed that the multi-system operator had not yet given feed to the government agency. Contrasting the attitude of the MSO with that of Jaya and Makkal television channels, he said they had been cooperating with the government. “Is it not the duty of a legally formed television channel to provide feed to a cable TV organisation when sought?” Mr. Karunanidhi asked. The government would function with impartiality and he had instructed government and police officials to deal sternly with wrongdoers. Action would be taken on complaints lodged by one organisation against the other for disconnecting its cables. “Those who know me well would have realised that as far as I am concerned, an impartial and honest administration is important, not relations,” the Chief Minister said. He noted that Zee TV had been providing its feed to the Cable TV Corporation in Thanjavur. Pointing out that all the MSOs were functioning with the cooperation of the Corporation, Mr. Karunanidhi said that it had become inevitable to proceed legally against those who were spreading slanderous information in a predetermined manner to mislead political parties and people.
