Rs.150 cr. for giving revolving fund to SHGs

THANJAVUR: Tamil Nadu is in the forefront in India with respect to women’s self-help group activities, said M. K. Stalin, Local Administration Minister, here on Tuesday.

Distributing revolving fund to women SHGs, he said that there were 3,67,416 groups in the State with 59.07 lakh members in them. In Thanjavur district alone there were 15,046 women SHGs with a strength of two lakh members.

Following a demand by many SHGs that they were not given the revolving fund by banks stating that they are not eligible to receive it, the Government has decided to give them revolving fund and a sum of Rs.150 crore has been allotted.

Mr. Stalin said that people need not have any doubt about getting colour television sets. It would be given to all. There was delay because of the time taken for production of the sets.

In the first phase television sets were given to people in Samathuvapurams. In the next phase 25 lakh sets were distributed at the rate of 10,000 per Assembly segment. In the third phase 35 lakh sets were distributed.

On September 4, the committee on colour television sets under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister will meet and discuss about further distribution. The committee comprises of members from all political parties.

The Minister also declared open new buildings constructed at a cost of Rs.17.87 crore during the function and laid foundation stone for buildings worth Rs.39.57 crore. Benefits to the tune of Rs. 15.61 crore were also distributed by him.

Union Ministers S.S. Palani Manickam, S. Regupathy, Miniters Ko.Si. Mani, S.N.M. Ubayathullah, the Collector, M.S. Shanmugham, MLAs, N. R. Rangarajan, Durai Chandrasekaran and Mahesh Krishnaswamy participated in the function.
