Rajesh Vaidya’s concert at Chaturti celebrations

Concerted effort: Rajesh Vaidhya, performing on veena in Thanjavur on Tuesday.

THANJAVUR: Come Vinayaga Chaturti, it is time for celebration at Ganapathy Agraharam, where a famous Ganapathy temple is located, near Thiruvaiyaru in the district.

The Chennai-based Ranga Mandira Trust has been organising cultural programmes to celebrate the festival every year at Ganapathy Agraharam.

This year also a veena recital by Rajesh Vaidya and party was held on Monday.

The festival was inaugurated by G. Rangaswamy Moopanar, president of Sri Thyagabrahma Sabha on Sunday.

Namasankeerthanam by Bala followed the inauguration on that day.

Dance drama by A. Vadivudevi and party was held on Tuesday and folk dances like Kavadi and Karaham would be performed by Madurai T.S. Ramaiah and party on Wednesday.

According to Swarnamalya, the director of Ranga Mandira Trust, promotion and preservation of our culture through our arts is the main aim of the trust.

“We aim at bringing popular artistes from the city as well as encourage the local artistes too in this festival. This year also two popular artistes from Chennai and two from Thanjavur and Kumbakonam are performing in the festival. We have a mix of both classical and folk arts”, Ms. Swarnamalya said.
