NGRI project assistant drowns in Orissa river

HYDERABAD: A project assistant of the National Geophysical Research Institute drowned in Tel River at Kesinga village of Kalahandi district in Orissa on Sunday.

G. Krishna Kumar (23), a native of Guntur district, was on fieldwork at the river when he got swept away. His friends called up newspaper offices to reveal the news on Monday.

The victim is said to have joined the groundwater division of NGRI two months ago after completing M.Sc (Geology) from Nagarjuna University. He was deputed to take up fieldwork at Kesinga village last week to collect river flow data. “Kumar was conducting a survey when he slipped into a pit near the river and drowned,” they said. The police retrieved the body on Monday afternoon.
