Performance criteria for party ticket, says PCC chief
HYDERABAD: Putting non-performing party MLAs on notice, the AP Congress Committee president D. Srinivas has made it clear that their performance will be the sole criteria for giving tickets in the next elections.
This assertion is in tune with the statements of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who recently said at a Cabinet meeting that the allotment of party tickets would be based on the winning chances of legislators in the next elections.
Mr. Srinivas said at a press conference, after interacting with Congress legislators, that they (MLAs) should strengthen the party at the mandal level and desist from projecting individuals as potential candidates for the elections.
The PCC chief also sent out a strong signal that leaders would have to sink differences at the district-level and refrain from bringing local issues to the PCC or the Chief Minister.
Earlier, during the interaction with Congress legislators from Srikakulam, Mahabubnagar, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool and Chittoor, Mr. Srinivas is said to have impressed upon them the need to take up massive membership drives.
