Hyderabad: Government has accorded administrative sanction for Phase I of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme for augmentation of water supply to Hyderabad urban agglomeration. Under the scheme10 tmc of water will be drawn at a cost of Rs. 3, 375 crore. For the Phase I, which is expected to be completed by 2011, water will be drawn from Yellampally barrage and for Phase II and III from Pranahita.
The sanction is accorded through G.O. 603 issued on Saturday.
With this decks are cleared for opening of tenders called for execution of the project. In the next two days the tenders are expected to opened. The HMWSSB will expedite the process for getting approval of the project under JNNURM. The Special Officer, GHMC, is asked to monitor the progress of the project on weekly basis.
The State government will not be funding the project during the current financial year 2008-09. The expenditure for grounding the work would be met entirely from the GHMC resources.
The funds generated under Building Regulation Scheme and Layout Regulation Scheme will be spent exclusively on the Godavari project after disposal of the pending case in the High Court, it is said.
However, in the next financial year adequate budgetary provision for State share would be made over and above the funds available under BRS and LRS schemes of the GHMC.
