HYDERABAD: The Directorate of School Education will shortly be bifurcated into Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education for administrative convenience and focussed attention of respective sectors. This was disclosed in the Legislative Council by School Education Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha while replying to a debate on the functioning of his department on Monday. Mr. Rajanarasimha also announced the extension of the mid-day meal programme in government schools, now restricted up to eighth standard, to ninth and tenth standards from October 13. He stated that the notification for the District Selection Committee test – 2008 to recruit teachers would be issued in 10 to 15 days. The Minister observed that a committee constituted by the government would study the best practices in school education in the neighbouring States shortly. Legal hurdlesReferring to the demand by B. Mohan Reddy (Teachers) to overcome the legal hurdles in the implementation of integrated service rules for teachers, he said securing the consent of the President after addressing related legal issues was the ultimate goal of the government. It had conveyed its view point to the Ministries of Law and Home which were seized of the matter after the President returned the proposals for re-consideration. The government was aware that these rules would pave the way for promotion and other facilities to two lakh Panchayat Raj and government teachers, he said. Mr. Rajanarasimha said that the government would consider the two-year apprenticeship period of teachers for payment of pension. As many as 1.48 lakh teachers were recruited since apprenticeship was introduced for teachers in 1994. Language laboratoriesThe government would set up language laboratories with audio-video equipment in all schools for English language training of students.
