Obliging admirers: Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi wears a cap offered by Muslim activists who visited him on the eve of the holy month of Ramzan in Hyderabad on Monday. — HYDERABAD: Stung by criticism in the media that the Praja Rajyam party had failed to trigger an exodus from other political parties, Chiranjeevi’s managers have put together an organised schedule for people from the districts to join the party. The week started for the new party, with two strong contingents from West Godavari district, a majority from the Telugu Desam Party and few persons from the Congress and a group from Chittoor joining it. The two contingents were led by Kotagiri Vidyadhar Rao, a former Minister in the Telugu Desam and K.P.N. Satya Prasad, a chest physician. Political vacuumMr. Chiranjeevi introduced them to the media, saying that while it was proof of a political vacuum, it also meant that people were looking forward to a change in governance. While Mr. Vidyadhar Rao was a “family friend”, he introduced Dr. Satya Prasad as a “childhood friend.” Among migrants from TDP were three former MLAs, Allu Venkata Satyanarayana (Palakollu), Pasala Kanakasundara Rao (Tadepalligudem) and Vanka Srinivasa Rao (Polavaram), former Municipal Chairperson, Eluru, Eswari Balaram, and three chairmen of Agricultural Market Committees in West Godavari district. Meanwhile, prominent among those who quit the Congress to join the Praja Rajyam was former Chittoor MP M.Gyanender Reddy besides former MLA C. Ramachandra Reddy and Mohan, former chairman, Tirupati Urban Development Authority. Earlier, Mr. Chiranjeevi was greeted by two groups of Muslims, including one from Nellore district led by Basheer, who runs a voluntary organisation. They were presented caps on the eve of Ramzan, the holy month of fasting. The party has now chalked out a schedule for people to formally announce their entry into the party. On Tuesday, separate timings have been fixed for people of Guntur, Chittoor and Karimnagar districts.
