CHENNAI: Harendra Gupta’s team (115 points) won the Pro-Am event of the Tamil Nadu Open golf championship at the Madras Gymkhana links, here on Sunday. The three amateurs who made up Gupta’s team were R. Shivaraj, P. Mukherjee and Radhakrishnan. Rahul Ganapathy’s team finished second with a score of 113 points. Ganapathy’s team comprised amateurs such as Abinav Suresh, S. Suryakumar and J.R.K. Rao. Feroz Ali Mollah’s team comprising D. Nagaraj, Muthu Kumaran and P.S. Jagdish finished third with 110 points. The prize for the closest shot to the pin on the second hole was won by S. Ramamirtham. The prize for the longest drive on the seventh hole was bagged by Vinayak Krishna and R. Shivaraj won contest for the straightest drive on the 10th hole. IOB posts winIndian Overseas Bank had to beat off a stiff challenge to win its opening game against SDAT in the Hindustan University Champions Trophy volleyball tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, here on Saturday. Karthick, Natarajan and Moses were prominent for IOB, while Selva Prabhu and Manikandan shone for SDAT. The results: Men: IOB bt SDAT 25-16, 26-28, 22-25, 25-23; ICF bt Sathyabama University 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24. Women: Hindustan Sports Foundation bt JBAS College 25-10, 25-23; St. Joseph’s College bt Armed Police 23-25, 25-17, 25-20.; GKM bt Dr. Sivanthi Club 25-16, 14-25, 25-17. Rajendran-Kalaiselvan duo winsRajendran and Kalaiselvan defeated Vellapandi and Chandran 25-17, 25-19 in the senior open doubles final of the Commisserate of Stationary and Printing Sports Association carrom tournament here. In the super senior open doubles, G. Kulasekaran and Y. Harun Prakash won beating M. Thanga Prakash and Ravindra Prince Titus 11-25, 25-24, 25-24. P. Sivakami, Principal Secretary and Commissioner, Commissionerate of Stationery and Printing, gave away the prizes.
