CHENNAI: Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar Police arrested a 34-year-old woman on charges of lodging a false police complaint about a house break-in and later, gold and cash going missing.
According to S. Panneer Selvam, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Pulianthope), Sri Kalpana of Manavalan Street, Vetri Nagar near Jawahar Nagar informed police about the loss of 80 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs.10 lakh in cash from her house after an alleged house break-in there last Thursday.
“Preliminary investigations were conducted at the complainant’s house and our team wasn’t convinced about the crime. Therefore we questioned her but she still stood by her story. Further interrogations revealed that the woman had indeed lied in the hope of getting exempted from repayment of several loans including those from a few banks,” said Mr. Panneer Selvam.
Sri Kalpana, who is the State women’s wing leader of a political party, was booked under four sections of the IPC including furnishing false information. She was arrested on Saturday and remanded, added the Deputy Commissioner.
