CHENNAI: Anbagam, a special school and home for the mentally retarded children run by P.Veeramani, has been selected for Kumararajah M.A.M. Muthiah Chettiar Award for its outstanding work for the welfare of the mentally challenged children.
According to a press release, the award carries a cash component of Rs.1 lakh.
The award instituted in 1996 by Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust is given every year to people who have made outstanding contributions to education, arts, literature, drama or economics.
“Anbagam was selected by a three-member selection committee from among the 20 nominations received by the Trust this year,” said AR.Ramaswamy, Secretary of Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust.
The award will be presented during the 80th birthday celebration function of Kumararajah M.A.M. Muthiah Chettiar on September 6 at Rani Seethai Hall.
The Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust has been active in many socially significant initiatives including helping Tamil scholars in publishing their works and helping poor children realise their dream of higher education.
