THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Unseeded R.J. Anand upset sixth seed Sridhin to move into the quarterfinals of the R. Rajasekharan Memorial junior State badminton championships at the Sri Moolam Club, here on Friday. Anand shrugged off the loss of first game to beat Sridhin 1-21, 21-15, 23-21. Top seed H.S. Prannoy crushed Pranav Satish 21-6, 21-10 to move into the quarterfinals. Ranjith, Dilshad, Neeraj Rahiman, Deepak Joseph, Vishnu Prasad and S.Sanjith completed the quarterfinal line-up in the boys’ section. The results: Boys: Pre-quarterfinals: H.S. Prannoy bt Pranav Satish 21-6, 21-10; Deepak Joseph bt Ravisankar 21-16, 17-21, 21-12; Ranjith bt Govind Sivan 21-16, 21-17. Vishnu Prasad bt V.M. Bharath 21-17, 21-14; R.J. Sreejesh, who was part of the Indian team in the recent Azlan Shah Cup and junior Asian hockey championship, was felicitated at a function at the G.V. Raja Sports School here on Friday. The function was organised by Kerala Hockey Association along with Thiruvananthapuram District Hockey Association and the G.V. Raja Sports School. Mementos were presented to Sreejesh, a former student of the sports school. The 21-year-old IOB employee said he was overwhelmed by the reception and felt honoured. Sreejesh recalled the reception given to K.M. Beenamol at the sports school after the Sydney Olympics in 2000. “I dreamt of receiving such a reception at the school one day. Now it is a dream come true for me,” the goalkeeper said.
