Ernakulam triumphs

KOCHI: Leg-spinner M.S. Akhil, a 17-year-old from the Tripunithura Cricket Club, took 11 wickets, while Swantons’ left-arm spinner K.R. Sreejith picked up eight as Ernakulam crushed Idukki by an innings and 142 runs to win the Central Zone under-22 inter-district cricket championship at the BPCL Kochi Refinery ground, Ambalamugal, on Friday.

Idukki, which made 126 in its first innings in reply to Ernakulam’s 329, was bundled out for a paltry 61 in the second essay.

Akhil, who claimed six wickets in the first innings, took five conceding just six runs in 4.5 overs, while Sreejith grabbed four and four in each innings.

The scores: Ernakulam 329 bt Idukki 126 in 41.3 overs (M.S. Akhil six for 25, Sreejith four for six) & 61 in 17.5 overs (Akhil five for six, Sreejith four for six).
