Gulbarga
LEVELLED: Encroachments being demolished on the road from Super Market to the Sharanabasaveshwar temple near the vegetable market in Gulbarga on Friday. GULBARGA: Encroachments and illegal constructions on the road from Super Market to the Sharanabasaveshwar temple near the vegetable market and the road from Rashtrapati Chowk to Jewargi Road were demolished on Friday as part of the ongoing demolition drive for widening roads. Officials of the Gulbarga City Corporation and other departments demolished of three buildings constructed on the land reserved for a park opposite the Kothari Bhavan. People living in the buildings were asked to vacate the premises before they were brought down. Many petty shops and permanent buildings constructed on the footpaths on the road from Super Market to the Sharanabasaveshwar temple were demolished. Owners of the buildings that would be affected, including the former Minister Qamarul Islam, objected to the previous markings made by Public Works Department officials. Mr. Islam told Assistant Commissioner Jagadeesh and other senior officials that his building conformed to the building bylaws. The Assistant Commissioner again conducted the measurement of the area to be demolished and said that the measurements and the markings made by the PWD were in order, and there were no discrepancies.
