Income Tax in quarterfinals

HYDERABAD: Income Tax fought back gallantly to down a fighting Sports Authority of India (STC, Vizag) 27-29, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15, 15-9 to enter the quarterfinals of the A-Division volleyball league championship for the Nalla Malla Reddy Engineering College Trophy at Amberpet Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

In another match, State Bank of India, powered by a fine display by veterans V. Srikanth Reddy and Vijay Chand, scored a hard-fought 25-10, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 win over APSRTC.

Holy Family moves up

Host and last year’s runner-up, Holy Family High School entered the quarterfinals of the second inter-school basketball tournament for girls with a 23-4 win over Don Bosco HS.

In other matches, St. Andrew’s HS recorded a 24-5 win over St. Joseph’s HS, Malakpet while St. Joseph’s, Habsiguda, got the better of St. Francis HS, Secunderabad 20-3 to make it to the last eight stage.

The scores: St. Joseph’s, Habsiguda, bt St. Francis 20-3; Holy Family ‘A’ bt St. Joseph’s , King Koti, 19-3; St. Pious bt Holy Mary 22-6; St. Andrew’s bt St. Joseph’s, Malakpet, 24-5; Holy Family bt Don Bosco 23-4; St. Antony’s bt Holy Family ‘B’ 28-8.

AP aquatics teams

The Andhra Pradesh teams to take part in the 35th junior National aquatics championship to be held in Amritsar this weekend were announced here.

The teams: Group I: Boys: S. Ramakrishna, V. Rahul Sai, A. Karthik, B. Dinakar, C.M. Sai Prasad, K. Rohith, E. Abhinav Reddy and B. Uday Kumar.

Condolence meeting

The AP Amateur Aquatic Association at a meeting here condoled the death of M. Gopal, former secretary of APAAA and the AP Triathlon Association.

State under-17 chess

The Andhra Pradesh State under-17 chess championship for boys and girls will be organised from September 5 to 7 at Hayathnagar. The top four players from each category will be eligible to represent the State in the National championship to be held in Puducherry.
