CPI(M) clarifies on strikes

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Thursday asserted that it firmly stood for the right to strike by the working class as a fundamental right.

The party’s clarification, in a statement from the Polit Bureau, came in the context of remarks made by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattarcharjee in Kolkata on bandhs.

The CPI(M) said it had consistently supported all-India general strikes by trade unions against the neo-liberal policies of the Union government and other urgent issues of the working class and toiling people.
