Councillors block road in Tirupur

PROTEST: MDMK councillors blocks traffic on Mangalam Road in Tirupur on Thursday demanding action against a sanitary inspector of the Tirupur Corporation. –

TIRUPUR: Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) councillors, led by S. Sivabalan, blocked traffic on Mangalam Road here on Thursday evening to demand that the Tirupur Corporation take stringent action against a sanitary inspector for demanding money for a death certificate and later abusing the applicant.

Traffic on the road. along which the Corporation building is located, was halted by the protest for 15 minutes. The councillors called off the protest after police assured them of action against the sanitary inspector.

Actually, the anger against the inspector began building up at the Corporation Council meeting itself. Mr. Sivabalan accused the official of demanding money to issue the certificate. Mayor K. Selvaraj to senior health officials to deal with this matter severely and even place the sanitary inspector under suspension.

As the meeting progressed, Mr. Sivabalan received a call on his mobile phone.

He told the Mayor that the applicant complained that the sanitary inspector had gone to her home and began abusing the people there. This had happened in minutes after the issue was raised in the Council.

The Mayor then suggested that a complaint be lodged with the police. The councillors then walked from the Council hall to the road and staged the blockade.
