Cyber crime: software company employee detained

Staff Reporter

Said to be the first case of source code theft in city

HYDERABAD: Police have detained a software company employee on Wednesday night in connection with a cyber crime, said to be the first case of source code theft in city, registered by Hyderabad Detective Department.

A case under section 65 (tampering with computer source documents) of Information Technology Act was registered following a complaint lodged by the Hyderabad-based software company owners.

Police sources said the detained employee stole the source code of a software developed by the company.

The employee later started own company and sold the stolen software to some clients maintaining that it was developed by the new company.

Most of the cyber crimes being reported in the city were mostly related to sending obscene messages over phone or hacking websites.

But stealing source code was not reported earlier in Hyderabad. In Bangalore, four source code theft cases were registered in the past three years.
