State to grant scholarships to EBC students

HYDERABAD: After enhancement of scholarships being paid to Kapu and other communities, the State government has decided to pay scholarships to students hailing from economically backward classes in degree and post-graduate colleges as well as polytechnics on a par with SCs, STs, BCs and minorities. Accordingly, scholarships would be paid to all such students whose parental income was below Rs. 1 lakh a year. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who reviewed the issue with senior officials on Wednesday said the eligibility criteria, income limit and scholarship amount to be extended to EBC students would be the same as adopted for other sections. The government would set aside Rs. 30 crore for scholarships to EBC students during the current year and the selection would be on the basis of means-cum-merit.
