Fake RTC ticket racket busted

Staff Reporter

Conductor, printing press owner arrested

VIJAYAWADA: The Krishnalanka police on Wednesday arrested a conductor of the Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and an owner of a printing press on charges of printing and circulating fake JET (Jubilee Express and Hitech) tickets.

Conductor S.V.V.S. Srirama Murthy is working in the Tuni depot. Printing press owner M. Rajesh hails from the same town.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (central zone) N. Sriramachandra Murthy said at a press conference that the issue had come to light when G.V. Harikishan Subrahmanyam, who was planning to visit Shirdi along with his family, visited the office of APSRTC assistant traffic manager at Pandit Nehru Bus Station on August 19 and sought to book tickets based on the inter-State jubilee JET tickets that he was already possessing.

Assistant Traffic Manager on duty K. Dasarath grew suspicious on seeing the tickets and found that the hologram of the APSRTC was missing on them. He informed the Krishnalanka police, who in turn, questioned Subrahmanyam. The police found that he obtained the tickets from his cousin Srirama Murthy, who joined the APSRTC as a conductor on contract basis three months ago.

During investigation, the police found that Srirama Murthy, with the help of his friend Rajesh, printed the tickets. The police seized 15 fake tickets from him. A case was registered under Section 468 and 471 (using fake documents as genuine) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

Held on theft charge

In another case, the Patamata police arrested Kagita Pitcheswara Rao, 31, a farm labourer from Kapileswarapuram village near Pamidimukkala on the charge of stealing gold jewellery from a house in Patamatalanka on August 17.
