Thumping win for Sethu Institute hoopsters

CHENNAI: Sethu Institute (Madurai) beat D.G. Vaishnav College (Chennai) 44-18 in the ongoing Bertram basketball tournament at Loyola College here on Tuesday.

The results (knock-out matches): Loyola Commerce bt T.S.N College 24-10; Loyola Yellows bt Loyola Hostel 67-28. Loyola Philosophy w/o I.C.F School; Sethu Institute (Madurai) bt D.G. Jaison in semifinals

P. Jaison Xavier of Ernakulam moved into the semifinals with a 21-2, 21-1 win over A. Vijeyanambiraj (Chennai) in the men’s singles event of the LIC Southern Zone badminton tournament here.

SRM triumphs

SRM won the S.K.P. Velayutham memorial State-level inter-collegiate women’s volleyball tournament held recently in Tiruchengode.

The results: Final: SRM bt P.K.R. College, Erode 25-10, 25-11. Semifinals: SRM bt Hindustan 17-25, 25-14, 25-14, 25-27, 15-9.

State gymnastics

The three-day State gymnastics championship for boys and girls will be held at Montford Matriculation School at Perungudi beginning August 29.

Events will be conducted in the following categories: artistic, aerobic, acrobatics, rhythmic, and tumbling. Over 500 gymnasts are expected to take part.

State-level chess

The N. Chandrasekaran memorial State-level chess tournament, organised by Sri Krishna Chess Academy, will held from September 6. Call O. S. Shankar (99629-05844) for details.
