Framework for waste disposal needed response

Manish Sharma of Jagadish Nagar writes: Waste disposal has always been a testing ground for our city authorities. The gravest expression of this failure can be seen in the disposal of domestic waste. Many street lanes and bylanes in the IT corridor are piled up with kitchen waste and plastics. It is time the authorities concerned brought an effective framework for domestic waste disposal.

Nirmala Narayanan of Jeevanbima Nagar says: The article effectively exposed the failure of enforcing agencies in managing waste. The mini-vans that come to collect waste from residential localities come with a blaring pre-recorded message requesting citizens to segregate waste. But I hardly find anybody abiding by and the garbage collectors are also indifferent to these issues.

Kala Chary of Osborne Road, Bangalore, writes: It is indeed frightening to learn that the amount of garbage generated in Bangalore every day has risen to 3000 tonnes. Unless each citizen realises that these garbage is “my own,” the solution can never be found. It is ridiculous to transport loads of garbage from our own backyards to faraway places for segregating, treating and converting into energy.
