Ernakulam, Thrissur top seeded

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ernakulam boys and Thrissur girls were given the top billing in inter-district team event of the R.Rajasekharan memorial State Junior badminton championships which begins at the Sri Moolam club on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram, bolstered by presence of junior international H.Prannoy, will be hard pressed to wrest the title from Ernakulam.

Last year’s runner-up Kozhikode and Thrissur are teams with credentials for causing an upset.

In the girls’ section, if form plays true defending champion Thrissur, Kozhikdoe, Ernakulam and host Thiruvananthapuram will figure in the semifinals.

But Thrissur will feel the heat especially in the absence of its top player P.C. Thulasi, who left for Jakarta to take part in a training camp.

Ernakulam, with promising Daya Elsa Jacob in its ranks, is the team to watch out. The singles competition will begin on Friday. — Principal Correspondent
