Nasscom hails new U.K. immigration system

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), the trade body representing the interests of Indian IT and BPO industries, has welcomed the new point-based immigration system (PBS) that is being introduced in the U.K. A Nasscom release issued on Tuesday stated that it had advised members to register for the new system, which will “transform the immigration process and make it operationally more efficient.”

The U.K. Home Office’s PBS is applicable to all companies which employ workers in the U.K. It has set October 1 as the deadline for applying for immigration under the new system, which will “go live” on November 24. Nasscom observed that any person wanting to go to or remain in the U.K. on an intra-company transfer or obtain a work permit would need to show that he/she had enough points to qualify under the new point-based system.

It observed that, “The objective of the U.K. Government is to boost Britain’s economy and ensure that the U.K. is easy to visit legally.”
