Sensex recovers early losses

MUMBAI: Wiping off its early losses, the Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index (Sensex) closed higher by 32 points on Tuesday on smart late afternoon rally in banking stocks amidst weakness in Asian and Europe bourses.

The 30-share Sensex ended at 14482.22 against 14450.35 on Monday.

It touched a high of 14495.27 and a low of 14,286.38, reflecting high volatility in trade.

The National Stock Exchange index, Nifty, however, ended flat at 4337.50.

Asian and European markets were sluggish during the day after the U.S. stocks registered sharp losses on Monday.

There are fresh concerns in the U.S. over growth prospects. Market participants said trading was largely confined to investors rolling over their positions to the next series as the August contract in the derivative segment would be settled on Thursday. — PTI
