TN sails into semifinals

HYDERABAD: Tamil Nadu, the defending champion, cruised into the semifinals with an emphatic 3-0 win over Goa while second-seeded Services recorded a similar win over Karnataka ‘B’ in the 56th ICL Senior National inter-State squash championship at Secunderabad Club here on Monday.

Flying start

Tamil Nadu was off to a flying start with four-time National champion Saurav Ghosal re-asserting his class with a fluent 11-6, 11-8, 11-4 win in just 15 minutes.

Interestingly, his teammates Naresh Kumar and Ravi Dixit also took the same time to dispose of their respective opponents.

Pool A: Tamil Nadu bt Goa 3-0 (Saurav Ghosal bt Reman Sayyed 11-6, 11-8, 11-4; Naresh Kumar bt Ricky Sharma 11-1, 11-0, 11-1; Ravi Dixit bt Rishab Sharma 11-6, 11-4, 11-3).

Pool B: Services bt Karnataka ‘B’ 3-0 (Sandeep Jangra bt Harshit Rampuria 11-0, 11-0, 11-0; Vikas Jangra bt Harsh Maheshwari 11-0, 11-2, 11-4; Nitin Dutta bt Piyush Vaishnav 11-4, 11-2, 11-0).

Chandigarh bt Karnataka 2-1 (Sahil Grewal bt Y. Gourish 11-5, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6; Rubek Sood bt Harsh Agarwal 11-9, 11-4, 11-6; Arman Ahlawat lost to Ashish Singhal 8-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-9, 11-7).

Pool C: U.P. bt Chhattisgarh 3-0 (Farman Khan bt J. B. Singh 11-1, 11-2, 11-0; Kushal Singh bt Kumdan Singh 11-6, 11-7, 11-1; Anil Kumar bt Rachit Jindal 11-6, 11-7, 11-5).

New Delhi bt Bihar ‘B’ 3-0 (Amjad Khan bt Pushpendra Patel 11-3, 11-1, 11-1; Suhail Kapoor bt Sansul Arfin 11-2, 11-4, 11-2; Rishi Jalan bt Sidhart Kishore 11-1, 11-1, 11-1).

Pool D: West Bengal bt Delhi ‘B’ 2-1 (Dalip Tripathi bt Harshit Jain 11-8, 11-2, 11-4; Gautam Das lost to Kush Kumar 3-11, 9-11, 9-11; Gaurav Narvan bt Deepak Mishra 11-9, 10-12, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9).
