Dandin is a noted sericulture scientist The award will be presented in Athens in November MYSORE: Eminent sericulture scientist and Director of National Silkworm Seed Organisation (NSSO), Bangalore, S.B. Dandin has been selected for the prestigious Louis Pasteur Award 2008. The award is given once in three years by the International Sericulture Commission, Lyon, France. Dr. Dandin, who also served as Director, Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSR and TI), Mysore, for almost six years till September 2007, will receive the award at a ceremony in Athens in Greece on November 3, as part of the 21st Congress of the International Sericulture Commission. According to a press statement, the Louis Pasteur Award 2008 had been shared by Dr. Dandin and Samura from Japan. The award is given to eminent sericulture scientists from across the world for their distinguished contribution to the field. Dr. Dandin has received the award for his contribution to the development of V1 variety of mulberry, which has now become one of the most popular leaf yielding variety of mulberry not only in India, but also abroad. The International Sericulture Commission had also taken note of Dr. Dandin’s contribution to the development of double hybrid, single hybrid and FC2 variety of silkworm races for considering his candidature for the award. The award also recognises Dr. Dandin’s contribution to popularisation of bivoltine sericulture in South India through the Institute-Village Linkage Programme (IVLP), the statement added. Fourth from IndiaDr. Dandin is the fourth recipient from India since International Sericulture Commission instituted the award 28 years ago.
