VISAKHAPATNAM: The A.P. Mahila Samakhya has sought improvement of the condition of Muslims and providing opportunities for education, health and employment by implementing the Sachar Committee recommendations. Addressing a convention on problems of girijan, dalit and minority women organised at the Centre for Women’s Study of Andhra University here on Sunday, Samakhya State president Pachcha Padma said the 11th State conference of the samakhya would be held at Kodad in Nalgonda district from September 20 to 23. Sunday’s meeting was a forerunner for it. Demanding that the spate of promises for the welfare of women be kept, she wanted stern steps to be taken to prevent forcing minor girls into prostitution. Gram panchayat-wise registers should be maintained to achieve this end. She alleged that the State Government had failed in rehabilitating women freed from prostitution in Mumbai and Pune.
