Convincing: Rajiv Kanakala and Sindhu Tolani. Film: Black&White Cast: Rajiv Kanakala, Sindhu Tolani Director: Srikant Vemulapalli Rajiv Kanakala plays a software engineer who gets implicated in a bomb blast. He is accused of masterminding the crime as his car is found at the place of the blast. He cries innocent but CBI officer Jackie Shroff is not convinced. He starts investigating with his team and what is revealed is something incomprehensible and shocking. The film begins on an amateurish note but it is the strength of the story that drives the entire film till the end. Rajiv is shown initially as being flooded with compliments and giving a spate of TV interviews as he saves a police contingent from naxalites. Thereafter a series of murder attempts are made on him and one the protagonist has no clue as to why it keeps repeating. It probably takes a while to understand why there is no relation between one event and the next in the first half of the film as the director mixes drama with romance, friendship, intrigue and suspense. It is only in the latter half and the last fifteen minutes of the film everything falls in place. The pace and velocity of the first half of the film slackens. The film has very few characters and it winds up soon, and interestingly the attempt to bring in the regular song and dance sequences do not appear misplaced. Sindhu Tolani chips in remarkable restraint, most of the time she is seen as being reticent, serious or brooding which is required of her character. Rajiv’s work looks artificial initially but in the latter half of the story he chips in good work. Uttej gets an important role . Jackie Shroff pulls of his role with élan. The background score is in tune with the mood of the film. Y. SUNITA CHOWDHARY
