Exhibition on Indian systems of medicine begins

healthy lifestyle: A stall at ‘Arogya Expo 2008,’ which began at the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore on Thursday.

COIMBATORE: An exhibition to showcase the strengths and benefits of Indian systems of medicine such as Ayurveda and Siddha is on at the CODISSIA Fair Grounds at Peelamedu in the city.

Also on display is the Unani, Homoeopathy and Naturopathy systems. The exhibition will be on till August 24.

The Union Government’s Department of AYUSH holds this conference every year. This year, it is conducting it as part of the international centennial convention of the Arya Vaidyan Rama Varier Educational Foundation. The Department of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy of the State Government is a co-organiser.

(AYUSH is an acronym for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy.)

According to a press release from the organisers, free consultation by AYUSH specialists, yoga demonstration, business and public lecture sessions are being held at the expo.

Every year, the fair attracts all major stakeholders such as health care product manufacturers, retailers, medical practitioners and publishers of articles on these systems of medicine.

Titled “Arogya,” the fair showcases the strengths and potential of the Indian systems of medicine and the research and development efforts in this field. It also projects the future trends and requirements in this sector and generates awareness among all sections on these systems of medicine.

The fair displays medicines in all these fields, food supplements, medicinal plants and various forms of therapies and also health tourism, according to the release.
