Three Indonesians held, US $ 1.17 lakh seized

HYDERABAD: Revenue Intelligence officials on Thursday busted a foreign currency smuggling racket by arresting three Indonesians and recovering 1.17 lakh US dollars, worth Rs. 50 lakh, from them.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Chennai unit, stated in a press release that the racket was busted while searching a Singapore-bound ship -CAPITO T2001- at Kakinada port on Wednesday. US dollars of various denominations were found hidden in a specially made cavity at the vessel deck.

The crew of the ship was selling diesel meant for their operations for half the price to the local fishermen and collecting money in dollars for past few months.
