City student excels

VIJAYAWADA: City student Perla Vibha has been selected for admission into the Mumbai-based Indian Institute of Gem and Jewellery to study three-year diploma course in jewellery designing. A statement issued by Spoorthi Creative Art School on Thursday said Vibha was the only student from the State to get admission into the institute. She received training in drawing and painting and graphic designing from the Spoorthi school.

Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde will unveil the statues of B.R. Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram at three places in Krishna district on Friday.

He will unveil the statues of both leaders at Thotamula village in Gampalagudem mandal at 10 a.m. and in Visannapet village at 11 a.m. He will then unveil a bronze statue of Babu Jagjivan Ram in the city at Sikhamani Centre, Nehru Nagar, at 12.30 p.m.

The programmes would be conducted under the auspices of Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, APCC (SC department), its State-coordinator Chinta Santa Kumar said in a press release on Thursday.
