Government gives nod to 25 industrial projects in State

Projects worth Rs. 30,000 crore approved, jobs for 2.5 lakh people expected


Bangalore: The State High-Level Clearance Committee of Industries on Thursday approved 25 projects with an investment of Rs. 30,000 crore, which is expected to provide employment to over 2.5 lakh people over the next three years.

Announcing this at a press conference, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who also heads the committee, said that prominent among the projects were two iron and steel plants and two cement units, one unit each in sugar, power, engineering, integrated townships, bio-fuel and petroleum sectors.

He said that two special economic zones (SEZ), two tourism projects, three port development proposals at Honnavar, Karwar and Malpe, and a few other small ventures were approved by the committee.

Accompanied by the IT-BT and Excise Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu and Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh R. Nirani, the Chief Minister said that BMM-ISPAT Limited would establish a Rs. 6,151-crore steel plant spread over 3,000 acres of land at Hospet. It would provide employment to 4,600 people. The company would purchase the land from the farmers with their consent, he added.

C.F. Bio-Tech Limited, a fuel ethanol bio-diesel project, is to generate 9 MW power with an investment of Rs. 122 crore. It will come up at Savadatti in Belgaum district. Gulf Oil Corporation will create a special economic zone at Kattigena Halli village of Jala hobli with an investment of Rs. 850 crore, and provide employment to 4,000 people. Poornimadevi Tech-Park will set up its unit at a cost of Rs. 238 crore on a 32-acre plot at Mariyappana Palya of Kengeri hobli. It is expected to provide jobs to 4,260 people.

Gopalan Enterprises will set up a bio-technology unit on a 27-acre plot at a cost of Rs. 190 crore at Nallore Halli village of Bangalore East taluk.

It will create 4,500 jobs. One integrated township each by NEC Private Limited and Cornerstone Shelters Private Limited on 500-acre and 200-acre plots, respectively, in Devanahalli taluk, have been approved. The land acquisition and zoning patterns are yet to be approved.

Hospitals

Two super speciality hospitals will be set up in Devanahalli taluk, one by Dr. Devi Shetty of Narayana Hrudayalaya on a 25-acre plot at a cost of Rs.1,000 crore, and the other by Satya Sai Hospital of A.S. Hegde in Bangalore North taluk, on a 25-acre plot by investing Rs. 430 crore. They have agreed to treat 10 to 15 per cent of the patients at subsidised rates.

Sri Cements will set up a cement manufacturing unit at Kodla Benakanahalli in Sedam taluk of Gulbarga district.
