NEW DELHI: Salgaocar Club, Goa, overcame a determined Border Security Force 2-0 in a pre-quarterfinal league match of the Osian’s Durand Cup football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Thursday. The goals came in the second half. That Salgaocar was the better team was never a doubt but the moves lacked direction and finish in the first half. Not that BSF threatened to make any dents in the Salgaocar fort but much of the game was reduced to midfield action. It was the second half that produced some racy stuff. Subhash Bhowmick, the wily Salgaocar coach, introduced Anil Kumar on resumption and within a minute he struck. An overlapping Biju Kumar took a shot that rebounded to Anil, who slotted the ball into the far corner in a flash. The second goal resulted from Cajetan Fernandes, who floated the ball from well outside the box and Biju provided the finish with a deft header. The second match between Oil and Natural Gas Commission and Tata Football Academy ended in a goalless draw.
