Star India launches Bengali entertainment channel

KOLKATA: Star India Private Limited launched its first regional entertainment channel in Bengali, Star Jolsha, here on Thursday.

The channel says it will provide an array of programmes – fiction, non-fiction, mythology, movies and reality shows.

Star India chief executive officer Uday Shankar said, “With Star Jolsha we plan to create a revolution in Bengali entertainment.”

J.C.Giri, regional channel head, Star India, said, “The Bengali regional genre has shown a substantial growth in the past two years in comparison with other regional entertainment markets and with this new channel we will try to bring a new level of diversity to the world of entertainment.”

Many celebrities, both from the Mumbai and Bengal film industries attended the glitzy launch.
