UGC team to visit BU for review

Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE: A team from the University Grants Commission (UGC) will visit Bharathiar University from September 5 to 7 to review the grant given to the university in the X Five Year Plan, the university’s Vice-Chancellor G. Thiruvasagam said here on Wednesday.

Grant

According to him, the UGC had given a grant of Rs. 3.5 crore in the Plan. “The team will check whether the amount has been used efficiently”.

The team will also review the proposal submitted by the university for the next Plan. “We have submitted a proposal for Rs. 40 crore. Earlier, we had only 22 departments. Now the university has 36 departments with an increase in faculty, infrastructure, publications, etc.,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

Mr. Thiruvasagam said that usually twice the earlier amount was permitted.

But, since the university had many proposals and had also expanded to a great extent, the amount was needed for the next Five Year Plan, he added.
