The industry requires one million trained people, says survey

VIJAYAWADA: Graphics and animation are buzz words now. As per a recent survey conducted by the NASSCOM, there will be a requirement of one million employees in animation industry over the next five years.

To bridge the gap between the industry and the unemployed youth, International Centre of Animation Art & Technology (ICAAT), a unit of Padmalaya Telefilms Limited, opened its unit in the city on Thursday. The centre would provide training in Maya, 2D and 3D animations for aspirants with creative zeal.

Creativity

There is no need for any academic qualification to pursue these courses. “There is no need for communication skills too. The only requirement is creativity, which we can test by conducting a special examination to the aspirants,” said Giridhar Sitamraju, director of ICAAT, Hyderabad. Stating that cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore had already become hubs of animation and visual effects, he said the Indian animation companies were now focussing on tier-II cities like Vijayawada.

Mr. Giridhar said there was a great demand for Indian animation companies in international market.

“Companies like Walt Disney, Sony Pictures and Warner Brothers are entering into agreements with Indian companies, besides opening their production and distribution centres here,” he said, adding that there would be a 100 per cent placement guarantee for those who completed the course.

Mr. Giridhar said course fee would be decided on the basis of each candidate’s talent and competence.

Vijayawada East MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, who inaugurated the institute at Moghalrajapuram, said animation was one field where people without a formal degree could get white-collar jobs with handsome pay pack. From Hollywood blockbuster ‘Jurassic Park’ to Kamal Hasan’s ‘Dasavataram,’ graphics played a role that was not lesser to the one played by any artiste or technician. “I’m sure ICAAT is a right place for those. who have creativity and wish to make an entry into the filed of graphics and animation,” he said.

Regional Employment Officer V. Himabindu said plans were afoot to provide training to unemployed youth in basic courses of animation and graphics through Rajiv Udyogasri free training programme.

Final decision

“A final decision to this effect has to be taken by the higher officials,” she said.

ICAAT local director N.S.R.K. Prasad, Director of Social Service Centre M. Prasad and others were present.
