Coimbatore: Digvijay carded a four under-68 for a first round lead on the opening day of the PGTI Players Championship at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club course in Chettipalayam here on Wednesday. The Gurgaon-based professional made it to top of the chart with the help of six birdies and two bogeys. Kolkata’s Yusuf Ali trailed the leader by one stroke followed by Vijay Kumar and Karanjit Singh Sandhu in joint third positions. Superb effortIt was a superb effort by Digvijay considering the fact that not many find it easy to shoot an under par score on this course due to the heavy winds. “I am pleased with my effort but I should admit that it was not that windy today. It was coming and going,” Digvijay said. He said his best moment of the day was the birdie on the eighth. Mukesh Kumar, a three time winner on the PGTI in the 2007-08 season and current Order of Merit leader, was tied 12th after returning a score of one over 73. It was a disappointing day for Joseph Chakola who returned 10 over 82 and finished the day in tied 84th place. — Sports Reporter
