Corrections and clarifications

* *The accompanying graphic in a report “User fee for domestic air passengers Rs. 375” (Andhra Pradesh, August 19, 2008, page 1) gave the figures for passenger traffic (domestic/international) from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in millions. It should have been in lakhs.

* *The first paragraph in a report “Monsoon set to stir memories” (Chennai city, August 18, 2008, page 3) was “The onset of the northeast monsoon is only a few weeks away ...”, leading to queries. We quote a sentence in the third paragraph of an article “The lesser known north-east monsoon”, by N. Gopal Raj (Op-Ed, October 18, 2007) — “… During the same period of one hundred years, the monsoon’s onset happened between October 4 and November 11, with the normal date for onset being October 20.”

* *The Sports Desk clarifies that the following teams/individuals won golds in the events (given in brackets), and not as mentioned in Results at a Glance” on August 19, 2008 and August 20, 2008 (“Olympics – Sport”): United States (Equestrian Team Jumping); Anky van Grunsven (Equestrian Dressage Individual); Anna Tunnicliffe (Sailing Laser Radial); Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson (Sailing: Women’s 470).

(There were discrepancies in the entries for these events, in the “Results at a Glance” and “Goldies” columns on August 19, 2008 and August 20, 2008.)

* *The seventh paragraph of a chess report “Abhijeet and Harika complete golden sweep” (“Sport”, August 16, 2008) was “Among the girls, top seed Harika expectedly claimed the title with tally of 10.5 points. Having made sure of the title with a penultimate-round victory on Thursday evening, Harika took a friendly 12-move draw in the final round to seal the title”, while the results column said “Girls (13th round): D. Harika (10.5) bt Katerina Nemcova (Cze, 8.5).” The detail in the text is right — Harika drew with Katerina Nemcova.
